Have you ever had friends who every single time you hangout just make jokes at your own expense? I had this friend that I knew for almost 10 years. We were pretty close, but every single time we hung out he constantly would put me down for my job, how much i make, or just anything else he could think of… I would just ignore it or laugh it off most of the time. But, after a while I couldn’t take it anymore and cut him out of my life. The people in my friend group i guess liked him more than me because i never really hungout much with them after that either. Sometimes I feel lonely because it’s so hard to make new friends in your late 20s. But, if that is what friendship is like I’d rather just be alone. Can anyone relate?

I have a friend group like that, somewhat. We can be very cutting when we want but we can also be very supportive and uplifting too. It's gotta be a balance. But we've known each other for a looooonngg time and we all came out together, so we have a very special bond. Matter of fact my friend just yesterday got on my nerves and now I'm not gonna talk to him for awhile until everything blows over. I don't know though, guys can be like that. If we don't like each other we just don't talk to each other for a minute and then we see each other again it's like nothings changed... hopefully you find.. uh.. better than that!! 🫶🏽 (I love my friends, but even at mid 40s I'm finding I'm wanting "more"... and maybe that's how it is... you'll just keep wanting more or different and it swings back and forth..) 🫶🏽 🫶🏽 🫶🏽

To me it doesn’t sound like he or they were really friends in that case. Sounds like it’s better to find new ones who build you up. The first step is to not accept that sort of behaviour and move on. I know it’s difficult to make new friends sometimes but better to look for people who support you and are true friends.

I had made a new friend recently who was always interrupting me and wanted to talk about himself rather than listen to me. After a certain point when he didn’t change and he knew i didn’t like that, I just told him that if we were going to be friends that had to change. He got up and left and honestly I felt so relieved to have not wasted any more time and energy on someone like that

Definitely worth cutting them out. Your peace is incredibly important and you deserve to be around people who love and appreciate you for who you are

There will eventually be a time when you screw your face up and try and remember his name - and you won’t. This is a busy planet, you deserve friends who feel like a safe place in this ocean of people and you’re in the process of finding them now 🫶

Your friends shouldnt make you feel bad about yourself. Cut em and make new ones. Go to bars, join communities. Lifes too short to feel bad about who you are

Have you confronted, and challenged him on his behaviour ? He needs to be exposed for what he is doing to you in front of your friends… He is obviously pretty insecure, and needs to take you down in order to get a sense of self-worth… I know how hard it can be to make friends, but I would definitely question not only his behaviour but also any other friends of yours that go along with it, and end up just having a laugh at your expense… Better no friends than bad friends or fake friends… They will lose a good friend that is irreplaceable whilst you lose a shitty friend… Sometimes, we just got to act according to what we feel is right and fair for ourselves. Ultimately it’s an act of self preservation!
