About

I’ve realised something about the way I experience life, and I’m curious whether anyone else relates. Sometimes I struggle to enjoy ordinary moments unless they feel like they’re part of a film. It’s not enough just to go for a walk: my brain starts looking for the right weather, the right light, the right music in my earphones, the right streets or buildings, almost trying to create a scene rather than simply experience it. I’ve also noticed that I often enjoy places, my time with people, walks and evenings much more when I look back on them than I did while I was actually there. In the moment, I’m so focused on whether the experience feels cinematic enough and whether it’s becoming meaningful that I miss the fact that it might already be. I’m starting to wonder whether I’ve been trying to experience life as an atmospheric scene before I’ve allowed it to become a memory; judging whether a moment feels memorable while I’m still living it. I also wonder how much films, social media and carefully curated images of life have shaped my expectations from early childhood. Maybe they’ve made me expect meaningful moments to feel extraordinary as they happen, when in reality many of the most meaningful moments only reveal themselves with time. And sometimes those expectations become so high that they stop me from doing things in the first place, because I’m worried the experience won’t live up to the scene I’ve already created in my head. Does anyone else experience this? Or have you noticed yourself getting caught up in trying to create the feeling of a moment instead of just being in it?

We live in a world that gets excited about replacing and erasing the artist. Is it because artists were the last bastion of truth, and the system hates anything it can't twist or edit? I was watching Momas' "How to See Like a Machine" and it just pissed me off. These "curators" are so gleeful, like we're entering some new age of bliss and peace. Commodifying our identities and making the rich richer is always a better storyline for the system than the prosperity of humanity and the planet. And it didn't start with AI. It started by pricing out the artist. Pricing out shelter, tools, education. AI is just the forefront of finishing the job, eradicating independent thought entirely.

WorldPride Amsterdam is finally here and the energy across the canals is brilliant. Collective is wishing everyone an amazing weekend of connection and joy. After the tragic news from Berlin, Pride is more important than ever, celebrate our visibility and look out for one another. There is so much power in our community when we show up together. Remember, Pride is a protest. Let’s make this a WorldPride to remember. Have the best time!

Outside lands this year is baby time, but I’m here for Tinashe so I’ll be satisfied no matter what! It’s hard not to be excited for Charlie too, everyone seemed to have so much fun in Chicago I hope she brings that energy here. Is anyone here going? Who do you want to see?

What’s it like to be considered conventionally attractive?

The most attractive thing about someone is watching them be embarrassingly enthusiastic about something niche. Mine: I glue proteins together inside living cells so I can find out which ones were touching. When it works you get a picture of a machine no one has ever seen, and I have absolutely shouted alone in a room over it. What’s yours — and don’t sanitise it.

Glassmouth — The window swallows the room in silence, throat of a house that sings only in light. Morning drips its pale honey— soft insistence, the slow undressing of a nocturnal unspoken body. A child presses his hands to the pane, feeling for the pulse of the other side. Outside, the wind stitches & unstitches the same argument between branches. Somewhere a boy mistakes the sky for an answer. At dusk, the glass holds the house inside it. A reflection is only the past in fractals trying, really trying to return home. You told me once: every window is a lesson in departure. I said: every shadow is proof something was here long enough to leave. S•S

Our hearts are with Berlin. The news from Berlin Pride is devastating. Collective stands in solidarity with the victims and everyone affected by this tragedy. Moments like this remind us our community is where we find our strength and our safety, and it's more important than ever to lean on one another. Take a moment to reach out to your friends in the city and check in. Sending love and strength to Berlin.

What the Tears Won’t Do I found out, and the finding didn’t break me open. It just stopped something, quiet as a door easing shut in another room. I keep waiting for the sob, the old kind that used to fold me in half, but it comes up short now, water without weather behind it. I sit here. That’s the whole verb. Not moving is its own kind of work when the floor won’t tell you which way is forward. They say find purpose, they say love again, they say happy like it’s a light switch and not a room you have to relearn in the dark, hands out, shins bruised on furniture you used to know by heart. I don’t understand anything. Not why it ended, not why my body forgot how to finish crying, not what I’m supposed to want now. But maybe not understanding is just honesty standing still. Maybe the answer isn’t a door but a season, and I am so early in it, still counting the ways I don’t have to know yet.

A Bridge, Held Open Today I sit with something like relief, you let me in, if only for a breath, a door cracked open after so much quiet, and I walked through it gently, glad to help. I don’t know what you’re carrying these days, the weight you haven’t said, the load unnamed, but I know love has never left the room, and gratitude still calls me by your name. Even distant, even brief, even small, a few words reaching out is still a bridge. I’ve held the hope of it in open hands, waiting at the edge, and at the ridge. You are the light. I’ve watched for you so long, steady in the dark, refusing to go dim. Not an ending but a place to walk toward, the far edge of the tunnel, glowing, and it’s him, it’s you, it’s always been you at the end of it. And the bridge, I don’t just hold it, I am building it, plank by plank, with patience as my tool. Not to cross alone and wave from the other side, but to walk it together, step for step, both of us, you moving toward the light, me moving toward you, meeting somewhere in the middle of what we’re making. Not rushing you. Not needing it complete. Just grateful for the ground we found today, a single step, however far apart, still counts as walking the same way, toward the light, across the bridge, together.

The best part of being gay isn’t the men. It’s that at some point you had to invent your own life from scratch — no template, no instructions — and then you looked up and there were others doing the same thing, and you all just found each other.

Why queers are obsessed with Achillean friendships If your feed is currently a chaotic mix of Zendaya giving withering stares as Athena and people losing their minds over the new adaptation of The Odyssey, you aren’t alone. We’ve all seen the clips. When Tom Holland’s Telemachus is told he is "pining for a daddy he didn't even know," it isn't just a line for the internet to meme into oblivion. This film takes us back into the greek myths of olde with heroic friendships and relationships the queer community cherishes and craves. While we might have gone for a slightly "queerer" casting choice for the lead, the return to Homeric lore has sparked a much deeper discussion: why do we crave the Achillean frequency so much in 2026? The antidote to the loneliness epidemic In the middle of a documented loneliness epidemic, these ancient tales hit a very specific nerve. We aren't just looking for "friends" to grab a casual drink with. We are looking for the kind of trust and ardent understanding that existed between the heroes of the classics. The Achillean bond is a friendship that is so intense it is impossible to untangle from love. It is about being truly seen, understood, and trusted in a way that feels increasingly rare in a world of surface-level digital follows. We want a peer who looks at us and sees a god, or at least someone worth fighting a ten-year war for. Odysseus and the trap of hyper-independence While we love the epic scale of the journey, Odysseus himself serves as a major cautionary tale for hyper-independence. He is the ultimate ghost, spending a decade "finding himself" while his village and his family deal with the fallout of his absence. In 2026, we’ve realized that we don't all get a Penelope to wait at home while we’re on a side quest. The move is to stop being the wandering ghost and start being the friend who stays and shows up. Real strength isn't about how long you can survive alone; it is about the quality of the people you surround yourself with. Reclaiming the queer lore For too long, these myths were sanitized by historians who wanted to keep them "roommate" friendly. But the community is finally screaming the truth from the rooftops. Whether it is reclaiming Apollo as a bisexual icon or finally telling the story of Iphis and Ianthe properly, we’re pining for our own history. This new wave of Homeric obsession is also re-awakening the old-school fandoms. From the "Song of Achilles" girlies to the "Nico di Angelo" goths who are still following Rick Riordan’s latest work, we’re all myth-munching like mad together. Reading and debating the classics isn't just an academic exercise; it is a new way to drive your friend group up the wall ;) Finding your Athena on Collective Whether you’re seeing the film while summering in the Mediterranean, making the trek to a wintry Sydney or Melbourne to see the film on the big screen or you’re staying home to re-read Madeline Miller, you shouldn't do it alone. The best part of these myths or heroes and gods is having someone to yap about it with. Switch up your Interests tags on your Collective profile to find your own circle of mythology nerds. Add "Ancient History" or "Literature" to and see who matches your frequency. Head to the Discussions tab to share your reviews or your favorite memes from the film.

8 Billion Eight billion souls on this spinning stone, and still, somehow, I find you alone in every crowd, in every street, the one face my heart won’t repeat. I love you past the edge of words, past what’s fair, past what’s deserved a kind of love that doesn’t bend, that has no season, knows no end. In my chest it stays unbroken, a promise that stays even unspoken. Wherever the distance has taken you, I’m here. I’m waiting. I’m still true. So find your way back through the noise, back past the static, back past the choice back to the place where you are known, back to the heart that calls you home.

Bot or Bestie? How to spot AI catfishing on your social media Top or [ro]Bot? It sounds like a bad joke, but in 2026, the answer is becoming harder to find. The recent exposure of the Goose app and its founders, Derek Chadwick and David Aliagas, has revealed a specific kind of digital violation that hits the queer community right where it hurts. For weeks, real men were being targeted by a network of AI-generated personas. These weren't just standard bots; they were part of a coordinated "Growth Hacking" strategy designed to trick you into downloading an app by faking a community that didn't actually exist. It’s a scandal big enough to cement a new term for when a brand uses synthetic humans to flirt with you: intimacy hacking. The "Close Friends" trap and the data harvest The Goose scandal relied on a particularly nefarious tactic: adding real users to the "Close Friends" stories of AI profiles. It is a psychological trick designed to manufacture an instant sense of belonging and exclusivity. If a stranger adds you to their inner circle and immediately starts directing you to a link or selling you on a "new social experience," you’re being targeted. Even more alarming are the sketchy terms of use that many of these new platforms hide in the fine print. In the case of Goose, the terms allegedly allowed the platform to use any data or images you upload however they like, without further consent. This means your face and your identity could be used to train the very bots that are catfishing your peers. Our community and our identities are not commodities to be exploited for a quick buck by tech founders looking for a fast exit. Clocking the synthetic: The signs of an AI glaze So, how do you know if you’re talking to a person or a prompt? Bots in 2026 are getting better at looking human, but they still struggle to act human. One of the biggest red flags is a total lack of digital personality. If you check a profile and there are no mutual friends, no shared community, and a suspicious lack of actual conversation, it is time to be wary. Synthetic profiles rarely engage in a real way; they are programmed to lead you toward a specific action. Authenticity requires a digital footprint. If you can't find a shadow portfolio of their interests or a history of them interacting with the local village, they might not exist. A lack of mutuals in a community as connected as ours is a massive warning sign. Real queers have opinions, messy histories, and niche interests. Bots just have flawless lighting and a script. Collective: No Bots Allowed The disappointment of seeing people within our own community use these tactics is real. It is a reminder of why independent, human-led spaces are essential. Collective is built as a defiant alternative to this culture of deception and exploitation. Collective stays bot-free because we don't rely on algorithmic tricks to manufacture growth. Every account on here is either invited by a friend or verified through their existing social media. We all have a responsibility to look out for the community. Share your lore, be loud about your personality, and keep your frequency tuned to the humans.

Anybody else have a “one who got away?” Let me be clear, I love my husband and so thrilled that we ended up together and wouldn’t trade my husband and our marriage for anything. But the relationship I was in just prior to meeting my husband ended for reasons that had nothing to do with a lack of emotional compatibility and I think I will always think of him as “the one who got away.” I don’t really believe in soulmates. There are 8 billion people in the world, I gotta believe there are at least a few 100,000 I could live happily ever after with. And I, frankly, think it’s far more romantic to choose to be with a person than to have “fate” saddle you with them. But that does mean there is many a guy I could have lived happily ever after with and didn’t. And that means the “one who got a way” (potentially) is a real thing.

At Le Loir dans la Théière you corrected my French gently, tilting the vowels until the name settled properly in my mouth. You wore a woollen beige sweater. We ordered lemon meringue pie, and shared a single glass of wine. The café was quiet enough to hear a hairpin drop. Between spoonfuls of meringue in the dim January light I made you laugh. And so I took three photographs of you across the table. I thought they would keep you. But later someone else’s jealousy and my own uncertainty passed through my phone like a storm. The pictures vanished. So did the messages— from equinox to solstice, our clumsy tenderness archived and erased. I was twenty-three then. You stayed twenty-two. What I didn’t know was you would return to me in other forms. The first time was a year later— September 2019, a crowded birthday party. Someone speaking in the kitchen, Spanish from Buenos Aires falling into the room your cadence uncanny. For a moment the air disappeared. The second time was the summer of 2021 in my mother’s house— my brother walking past me wearing the cologne you used to wear, and suddenly you were everywhere. The third time was the only one I chose. Years later I began writing a story. I went looking for you in the corner of my memory where the photographs used to be. And slowly the table in Paris returned— and you’re sitting in front of me, when I was still the one, the lemon meringue pie, twenty-two; your beige sweater in the dim light. Patiently teaching me how to say things correctly as if language, like love, could keep a moment from disappearing. Then the glass shattered on the white cloth; everybody moved on. But I’m still twenty three inside the memory with you sitting in front of me.
