If you can, go outside. Mother Nature gives us so much to see and it’s constantly changing. It’s good for you, too. We’ve long known about the benefits of sunlight which helps our bodies produce vitamin D, but there’ve been recent studies that suggest a daily walk in a forest has a positive effect on our mental health. I’m told Edmonton has some really nice trails! You can combine that with other hobbies, too. Take your camera and take photos (you can share them here), or take a pen and notebook so you can stop and draw or write. Of course, you can do all that on your phone, but you’ll risk being distracted and end up doomscrolling, texting, playing games…📸 📝🪺🐿️🚲

@casbahmike I do crave nature right now, but it’s been far too cold lately. I’m hoping soon the weather will warm up so I can enjoy the trails again ☺️ the winter and spring tend to be my doomscrolling seasons and I’m trying to do things other than game or my other usual hobbies. Try to branch out when the hobbies start feeling like a chore.

@aspn yeah, I didn’t think winter would ever end here. It took forever for the snow to melt. It’s still a bit chilly, though.

I read a lot, youtube, board games, gardening, walking, hiking, work, mindfulness, call people I love, travel, bbq, bake, cook, be in presence. However I am not perfect at these

In the moment I bake something or start doing a photo shoot with my dog lol

@ericv I try to do at least some of these but sometimes they just don’t hit the way I expect them to and I still end up bored lol. It’s like the Russian roulette of bored 🤷🏻 😂

There's nothing to cure. I'd say write even if it's just nonsense. You'll probably find something you want to do and actually feel like doin it. Whenever I'm bored it's because there's a million things I could be doing but I just don't feel like doing any of them

@kraynor98 ooooh paint and sips ✨ it’s been awhile since I’ve done that! I like these ideas ☺️

Boredom is a good thing. It’s a signal to make a change. Perhaps try leaning into the stillness. Like other suggestions here, do quieter, slower things and let it be for a while. Over time you might turn your craving for more into a craving for less.

@collectj I think there’s a lot to what you just said here! We’re all so focused on the next goal, the next thing, thinking we need to constantly be moving, we never actually stop and take up space in the present to slow down and be mindful of the time and space we’re in 💖 thank you for this! ✨

First you have to ask yourself if this boredom is detrimental. Does it need fixing ? Is it hurting you? If you find it is, go back to your hobbies. Are you bored of them too ? Do you need new ones ? If so, you’re gonna have to find ones yourself. I can say I like cooking. And having my friends over for supper is my kind of fun, but maybe you don’t like this.

Finding myself while doing my hobbies. Like playing simulation videogames. Those make me feel connected with my creativity haha

I furiously write stories, usually three different ones at a time — courtesy of ADHD — including the odd fanfic (which I will take to my grave 😈😅)

At least for smart people boredom isn’t curable. Embrace it and learn to enjoy yourself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
